2 Ingredient DIY Candles

We've learned so much during this ditch and switch challenge and today we wrap it up with the most fun, yet simple DIY to date.

The products in the typical American home are filled toxins and chemicals that are harming us and our loved ones. We are here to make a difference to inspire you to live a better life for your family, equip you with the tools and resources you need to make that happen, and empower you to do the same for others!

This simple 2 ingredient DIY candle is much cleaner than fragrance-filled and paraffin wax based candles sold in most stores.

Candle Workshop

We had a blast at our fall candle workshop, and I thought I'd share the photos here! Each month, we will be hosting virtual workshops where you can purchase your DIY Candle Making Kit and make your own at home. If you don't have oils at home, we will send you everything you need to follow the video and blog and DIY! Or, you can purchase all the ingredients listed below in the recipe and gather them yourself.

During the workshop I had diffusers filled all around my house with different scents and recipes so the girls could smell and see which recipe and oils they would like to use.

DIY Soy Candle with Essential Oils

Ingredients

Soy Wax Flakes
Wicks
Clothespins
Essential Oils– 40-50 drops total (you may want to read the flash points for oils for heating purposes before choosing your oils)
8 oz jar or container/mug/cup
Double Broiler

Instructions

Step 1

Measure your soy wax candles. Basically, add double the amount of wax per the size of your container. You can use your container as a scoop. Repeat for as many candles as you want.

Step 2

Heat wax over a double boiler until it’s melted.

Step 3

There are a couple ways to secure the wick to the bottom of the container. 1. You can hot glue it prior to pouring the wax in. 2. Once the wax is melted, spoon a bit of it into the bottom of your container. Use this to “stick” your wick to the bottom center of the jar. The double sided sticky tape that comes with wicks does not work.

Step 4

Carefully pour the melted wax into your containers.

Step 5

Allow the wax to cool slightly-3 minutes or so. Drop 40-50 drops (per 8oz.) of your favorite essential oils into the wax and stir, stir stir!

Step 6

Thread the wick through a clothespin and rest it on top. This will hold the wick in the center. Alternatively, if you don't have a clothespin, you can use a pencil and wind the remaining part of the wick around it to hold it in there center.

Oil Combo Ideas

For stress-relief and relaxing:

30 drops of lavender + 15 drops of rosemary

20 drops of lavender + 15 drops of chamomile + 10 drops ylang-ylang

15 drops of cedarwood + 15 drops of orange + 10 drops ylang-ylang

20 drops of orange + 20 drops of spearmint

For energy:

15 drops of rosemary + 15 drops of lemon + 15 drops of peppermint

15 drops of lime + 15 drops of bergamot + 15 drops of spearmint

15 drops of frankincense + 15 drops of orange + 10 drops of cinnamon

15 drops of rosemary+ 15 drops of lemongrass + 15 drops eucalyptus

The Challenge
