Twas the night before Thanksgiving, and all through the kitchen,
my kids were “helping”… in ways I should probably not mention.
Sprinkles were flying, the pudding was stirred,
and Nana’s eclair cake disappeared quicker than a bird.

Layers of graham and chocolate stacked high with care,
in hopes that by morning… there’d still be some left to share.
But with tiny taste-testers and spoons on the roam,
let’s be honest—this dessert may not make it out of our home.

We do a lot of hand me downs around here so I can’t find anything he “needs”.

Every girl dreams of having a Christmas tree window… and every year my toddlers (and our shark-toothed golden retriever 😅) remind me that real life requires creativity.

So we did what any determined, joy-chasing family would do…
We built one.

Sometimes the world doesn’t see what we’re doing inside our homes…
and honestly—that’s okay.

They don’t see the scripture being read over sleepy faces while I flip pancakes.
They don’t see the worship music drifting through our home while little feet run from room to room.
They don’t see four kids piling into the driver’s seat to pray with their daddy before work.
They don’t see prayers whispered over each child before bed.

But our children see it.
Heaven sees it.
And this—right here—is Kingdom work.

We don’t leave discipleship up to the world.
Or the church.
Or a program.
God entrusted these little hearts to us, and we are doing our best to weave Jesus into the quiet, ordinary, messy moments of our day.

Not perfect.
Not polished.
Just faithful.

Here’s how we armor up our kids every single morning:

🛡️ Daddy reads scripture while I make breakfast
🛡️ We pray and eat together—slow mornings on purpose
🛡️ Worship or a sermon playing while they play
🛡️ The Armor of God is part of their daily rhythm
🛡️ Family prayer before Daddy leaves for work
🛡️ Age-appropriate nighttime prayers (not just recitation)

The little ways you weave Jesus into their lives, they matter. They aren’t little things- they are BIG.

Teaching my seven-year-old how to pray has become one of the sweetest parts of our day. We keep it simple — acknowledge, confess, give thanks, and ask. Four little questions that open his heart and remind him that God is right here in the everyday moments.

In my teenage years I dreamed of having 5 or 6 kids.

By age 28. I had none. But, my late husband and I started the adoption process through the foster care system.

After a failed adoption, we decided to keep going. Immediately we met Freddie when he was 13. At 29, I became a mother on paper and a second mother to our son. Just a few months later, my husband passed unexpectedly.

At age 33, I met my husband. He had a 3.5 year old son and a 7 month old daughter. His only desire for his life was to have a family- to have a wife to love and be a dad. But through years of trauma, he decided he was done having kids.

He accepted Jesus into his heart and we got married weeks later and then bought a home in July for all of our kids to be under one roof.

That same year at Christmas, we got pregnant and I was due to give birth at age 34 for the first time.

Shortly after, I got to adopt my husband’s children as my own.

At 35, we had another. If you’re counting- that’s FIVE.

Won’t He do it.

Moral of the story: sometimes we want to experience the movie version of our lives in a hour and God is only asking us to turn the page. Don’t rush, sweet friend. God is in THIS story. He isn’t finished yet.

Some trips stay with you forever.
This little alpaca farm tucked in the mountains outside Asheville was one of those for us — slow mornings, feeding goats and alpacas, laughing in the rain, and sitting under the stars in the hot tub.
